Community Support Services

Transportation

  • Escorted transportation to medical appointments provided by volunteers and staff drivers.  A fee is applied to cover gas costs for our volunteers, plus cost of parking if required at the time of visit, and varies depending on distance of trip but is less expensive than a taxi service.
  • Our biweekly grocery bus travels every other Thursday to Metro in Bells Corners. Serves seniors living in designated high rise apartment buildings only.  Clients must be able to manage their grocery bags on the bus and get their bags from the lobby of their building to their apartment.  Maximum of 2 reusable grocery bags per person over 2 bags must have delivery arranged from the grocery store at clients expense.
  • Our grocery/shopping van travels weekly to local grocery stores, Carlingwood Shopping Centre and occasionally to Bayshore Shopping Centre.  A fee of $7 applies.

Home Help

Workers provide basic housecleaning, laundry and light meal preparation under the supervision of the client on a regularly scheduled or occasional basis.  Companion care and grocery shopping are also available. Clients pay a small hourly rate.

Home Maintenance & Snow removal

Workers provide regular and/or occasional house and yard maintenance such as grass cutting gardening, snow removal, window washing, minor repairs, painting, etc.  Clients pay a small hourly rate.

Day program

A day-away program for seniors, operating two days a week at the Olde Forge Community Resource Centre.  Stimulating activities, nutritious lunch and after-lunch entertainment.  A small daily fee applies.

Luncheon Program

The Olde Forge hosts a luncheon every Wednesday from September to June from 11:30 to 2:15. It includes a nutritious hot lunch and an after lunch program. We give priority to seniors eighty and over and we can help with transportation from your home within our catchment area if necessary, but you do not have to live within our catchment area to attend.

Telephone Assurance

Volunteers telephone every weekday, to ensure your safety and well-being.

Friendly Visiting

If you have trouble getting out of your home and are feeling isolated, we will arrange for a regular weekly visit to be provided by a volunteer or please attend our friendship group on Friday mornings.

Foot Clinic

Foot care clinics are held every Thursday.  Foot care nurses will assess your foot care needs and provide the necessary nail cutting, callus filing, corn removal and foot care advice.  There is a $37 charge for the first visit and it is a double appointment lasting 40 minutes.  $22 charge for subsequent appointments lasting 20 mins.  Appointments are mandatory.  We can help with transportation from residence within our catchment area.

Income tax Assistance

Our volunteers provide free assistance in filling out income tax forms to seniors and persons with disabilities on restricted income during March and April.   Call for an appointment. This service offered to all Ottawa area residents.

Please Note that for some services a staff person will need to complete a home visit to assess needs and personal information will be collected such as D.O.B., address, phone and health card number as required by the Province of Ontario.
