Community Support Services
Transportation
Escorted transportation to medical appointments provided by volunteers in their own cars. A fee is applied to cover gas costs for our volunteers, plus cost of parking if required, and varies depending on distance of trip but is less expensive than a taxi service.
Grocery Bus
Our free weekly grocery bus travels every Thursday to Metro in Bells Corners. Serves seniors living in designated high rise apartment buildings only. Clients must be able to manage their grocery bags on the bus and get their bags from the lobby of their building to their apartment.
Grocery / Shopping Van
Travels weekly to local grocery stores, Farm Boy, Carlingwood Shopping Centre and occasionally to Bayshore Shopping Centre. A fee of $6 applies.
Home Help
Workers provide basic housecleaning, laundry and light meal preparation under the supervision of the client on a regularly scheduled or occasional basis. Clients pay a small hourly rate.
Home Maintenance & Snow removal
Workers provide regular and/or occasional house and yard maintenance such as grass cutting gardening, snow removal, window washing, minor repairs, painting, etc. Clients pay a small hourly rate.
Day program
A day-away program for seniors, operating two days a week at the Ron Kolbus Centre in beautiful Britannia Park. Stimulating activities, nutritious lunch and after-lunch entertainment. A small daily fee applies.
Respite Care
In-home care for a senior or adult with a physical disability, designed to provide the caregiver with a break, to rejuvenate or to attend to their own needs. A small hourly fee applies.
Telephone Assurance
Volunteers telephone every weekday, to ensure your safety and well-being.
Friendly Visiting
If you have trouble getting out of your home and are feeling isolated, we will arrange for a regular weekly visit to be provided by a volunteer.
Foot Clinic
Foot care clinics are held every Thursday. Foot care nurses will assess your foot care needs and provide the necessary nail cutting, callus filing, corn removal and foot care advice. There is a $20 charge. An appointment is required.
Income tax Assistance
Our volunteers provide free assistance in filling out income tax forms to seniors and persons with disabilities on restricted income during February, March and April. Call for an appointment. This service is Ottawa-wide.
