Oasis Senior Supportive Living
Oasis is a program spearheaded by Older Adults in Kingston Ontario that focuses on developing supportive communities where high populations of Older Adults reside, also known as Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs). Oasis is now a national research project aiming to support community development, decrease isolation, and improve health for Canadian Older Adults who want to continue living in their own homes.
Oasis is not a retirement home program! It is a way to bring Older Adults together where they already live through social gatherings, nutrition, and physical activity. With the support of an on-site coordinator, Oasis members decide what activities they would like to see in their community. Oasis also aims to support education on issues relevant to Older Adults by connecting them with community organizations and educational resources.
In partnership with Queen’s University, Olde Forge oversees the implementation and ongoing activities of two sites in Ottawa. The Oasis Program is overseen by a steering committee which consists of active members who reside in these buildings. They are dedicated to amplifying the voices of members and advocating for the needs and interests of their communities.
